Resolutions for 2010...

We have several family resolutions for 2010...one of them is to stay connected with family and friends near and far (1). Another one is to spend more time together doing things as a family (2). And yet another is to practice (and model) reading and writing for the young literacy learners in our family (3).
So...what do you get when you add 1+2+3? A family blog, of course!

Here is our first attempt. Our goal is to spend each Sunday evening together as a family planning and posting (highlights from the previous week, what we're reading and learning, things we're looking forward to, and some of our favorite photos!! So, check in when you're able, watch us grow, and feel free to respond to a post if you feel so moved. Happy New year to all of our family and friends!!!

Benjy...

Sorry, Benjy's too tired and can't post tonight. Hopefully he'll be back next week after getting some extra sleep!

Jack Attack!!

Hi, it's Jack. I went to a birthday party Friday night. It was for Cord, who's in my class. We played football, we played Wii, and we went bowling at Apple Place. Eli was there, too.

Today was a cool day. Dad took us to the Winter Carnival in St. Paul. St. Paul is the capital of Minnesota. We saw a dragon, a jack-in-the box, a flaming chair, and a castle. They were all made of ICE!

I go back to school tomorrow. It'll be cool.

Peace out!

The Return of the Benjy...

Hello, Benjy's back! I just ate a pop tart. It was yummy. It is really cold here. We had to have inside recess again. But, I love inside recess because we can color. I color with my friend Connor. When we get done coloring, we play some games. We like to play Checkers. I always win. We also play Snap Cubes. They connect and I made a ship today at Choice Time.

I went to Sam's house on Saturday. He's in my class. Sam has a sister and brother. His sister's name is Lauren and his brother's name is Mason. I know three different Masons. When we were about to go back home to my house, Sam showed me his fort. In his car on the way home, his dad gave us some gum. I love gum. Yummy.

My dad got me a new Lego camper. I put it together; it was very hard, especially to put one of the doors on. I like to wreck it and put it together again. I built it three times already. Zoey destroys it almost every day. But that's okay, I can build it again. And, Jack got a Lego Star Wars ship.

Seeya later, alligator. After while, crocodile.

Hi from Jack!

Hi. How ya doin' today? Yo. My name is Jack. This is for all you new readers out there. I go to Diamond Path Elementary School of International Studies. We just call it DP for short. I am in Ms. Dunning's second grade class. I like to draw cartoons and I like to play video games. My favorite video game is Super Mario Bros. for Wii.

My grandma and grandpa just got home from California. They were visiting Jass. We are hoping to go visit Jass in California this summer, too. We will get to go on an airplane. The last time I was on an airplane we went to Chicago. I love Chicago. I think I'll love California, too. I've been there one other time before, but I don't remember any of it.

We want to get more people to read our Blog, so come on. Tell people about it!

Peace out!

A Little Late!

Well, we didn't post on Sunday. We were too busy watching the Vikings game. We were certain we were headed to the Super Bowl...until the end. It was eerily reminiscent of the Eastview vs. Cretin game that would have sent us to the State Finals this past season. Eric was a bit depressed after the game, but woke up with a positive new perspective. He said, "Well, this will make watching the Super Bowl much more enjoyable and a lot less stressful."

Daddy's Back!!

Eric and his parents left for London on Thursday, for a quick tour of the city. The kids and I missed him, tried to keep busy, and are happy to have him home!! They spent three and a half days riding the tube, seeing the sights, and having high tea. Just as they adjusted to the seven-hour time change, it was time to come home again. I'm sure the jet lag will set in tomorrow, just as Eric delivers his lecture on the Industrial Revolution!

We are continuing to settle into our new home in Apple Valley. We are painting each room, one by one. We just have a few left. I am continuing to shop for those "perfect" pieces that make the place feel like a home rather than a house (like the dishes I found at Pier One this weekend and the Monet print we are anxiously awaiting from the framer). We really do love it here, and are looking forward to many happy years ahead.

This week will be short, as we start our school week on Tuesday (thanks to MLK Day). The kids are getting their H1N1 shots (finally!) tomorrow. They've got Godzone on Wednesday. I'm hosting a little Entertaining @ Home party here Thursday night. Friday will be here before we know it! We're looking forward to another Viking victory...to bring us to the Super Bowl!!!! SKOL VIKINGS!!

Z-Girl

The boys call Zoey "the Destroyer" but she's really just curious. She likes to crash a lot of towers that Benjy builds. She also likes to get into their "secret drawers" they have in their rooms. But most of all, she likes to eat chapstick (thanks, grandma, for introducing her to this).

She loves her shoes and her boots. She takes after her mom in this way. She's become quite a diva. She finally has enough hair to pull into a pony tail on the top of her head. She's been called "Pebbles" (as in the Flintstones) more than once.

She's talking more and more. A few of her latest words (and our favorites to hear) are: love you, thank you, and let's play!

By Benjy...

I never did a blog before. I don't really know what a blog is, but mom says it's okay. On Saturday morning, I woke up. Then I had some breakfast. Then I went to Grand Slam with Jack, Max, Hunter, Sam and Josh. First I played some games. We played laser tag next. It was my first time playing laser tag. I was on the blue team two times.

I also went to a birthday party this weekend. It was Henry's. He's in my class at school. He invited some girls. We went swimming in a swimming pool (it was inside). I played with Luke a bunch. When the birthday party was done, I got some good stuff to take home.

I have been playing legos a bunch lately. And I collect Tech Decks. I have 14 Tech Decks. I have them in a case that looks like a skateboard. It keeps them safe from "Zoey the Destroyer".

Seeya later, alligator. In a while, crocodile.

Yo, Jack's Back

I went to the Eastview wrestling meet Friday night. It was an awesome night! We got to go into the wrestling room, we got to play in the gymnastics gym, and the Lightning won! My friends Max, Hunter, Erin and Luke were there. I can't wait until the next one.

We just finished with our money unit in school. I liked it. Next we are learning about time. I can tell time on a digital clock, but I need to learn how to tell time on a regular one.

My dad is going to London next week. He's going with Nana and Opa. We'll miss him, but we'll be okay.

Peace out!

Zoey Update

Our little Zoe-Zoe-Bug is a busy girl!!! She is developing quite a personality. She loves to tease (and be teased), tickle (and be tickled), and talk (and , of course, be talked to). While she loves her toys (especially her new Christmas toys), she is quite intrigued by the toys of her brothers. Whatever they do, she wants to do.

Her brothers love her and take great care of her. Each day, they head off to Darcy's together (we're out the door by 6:35am). After the boys get on the bus to go to school, she stays and plays with her friends, Katie, Andrew, Mason, Louis and Quinn (these last two are her favorites).

At 18 months, Zoey is a delightful addition to our family. We can't image (nor remember) life in the Vande Berg household without her!!!

Jack's First Post

Hi, this is Jack. My favorite Christmas present was the pack of mini-football helmets. Benjy and I play football with them. I have the MN Vikings (they won today and they're going to the playoffs!!!).

I played with my friends a lot over winter vacation. We played on the Wii; we played Super Mario Bros (which is another present I got for Christmas).

I loved staying home over winter vacation, but I am excited to see all my friends back at school tomorrow.

Peace out!
